6 Summer Moving Tips – Protect You and Your Stuff from Heat

6 summer moving tips - protect you and your stuff from heat

Moving in the Texas summer heat can be brutal, and MoveStar is here to help.  Although we will do all the coordination, heavy lifting, and provide quality service, there are still a lot of things needing to happen that you are responsible for. The Texas heat can also make it tough.  Here are a few tips for moving in the Summer that you can take to minimize the discomfort.

1. Get Your Family Involved

Even if you’re using one of the best moving companies in Dallas, you’ll still have fragile things you want to move in your car. Your family can help out with this, reducing each person’s time spent in the hot sun. Even young kids can carry light items.

2. Have a Yard Sale

Moving is always an opportunity to declutter. As you pack, consider whether you need to keep everything that’s going into boxes. Yard sales are a great way to get rid of unnecessary items and a way to raise some extra cash. They’re also especially popular in summer when kids are around to help out.

3. Separate Items that are Sensitive to Heat

As you pack, set aside any belongings that heat potentially can damage, then mark the boxes and pack them accordingly. That way, we will know to load them last and take them into your new place first, decreasing the time they are exposed to heat.

4. Arrange for Utility Services for Your New Place in Advance

No one wants to arrive at their new home without electricity or water. Contact the utility companies that will be servicing your new home to get these services set up in advance.

5. Pack a Kit of Essential Items for Moving Day

It’s a good idea to set aside things you’ll need on moving day for cleaning, emergencies, and battling the heat. Water bottles, toothpaste, towels, a few days’ worth of clothing, and a first-aid kit are all excellent examples.

6. Dress for the Heat

Make sure to set aside comfortable clothing for moving day. Avoid dark colors that absorb heat. Clothes made of synthetic materials do a terrible job of absorbing moisture, so wear fabrics like cotton or linen. You should also wear sunglasses and don’t forget the sunscreen.
